A cluster is defined as an array of interrelated industries and organizations sharing common technology, skills, information, customers and clients and sharing ideas in areas of common concern to increase productivity and competition. The Ontario Mineral Industry Cluster includes:
- Major operating mines and junior mining exploration companies;
- Research and development organizations;
- Mining/mineral related educational and vocational institutions;
- Mining municipalities;
- Labour Unions;
- Environmental NGOs;
- Aboriginal organizations;
- Legal and insurance services;
- Mine equipment suppliers;
- Government agencies;
- Consulting firms;
- Economic development agencies; and,
- Mining media
Diagram 1 illustrates how industries and organizations of the Ontario Mineral Industry Cluster are interrelated and reinforce each others' competitive position.
