Ministry of Northern Development and Mines

The Ministry of Northern Development and Mines is the only regional ministry within the Ontario Government and plays a central role in northern affairs. We have strengthened the ministry to focus on delivering front line services in the North. The Ministry is also more active at Queen's Park, working to ensure that decisions for Northern Ontario make sense in the North. MNDM also supports the mineral industry by providing it with valuable information about the province's geology. It also delivers and administers Ontario's Mining Act to improve the investment climate for mineral development.

The Mines and Minerals Division works to generate new wealth and benefits for the residents of Ontario by providing basic geological information gathering and interpretation in support of Ontario's exploration, mine development and mining sectors and the administration of Ontario's Mining Act in a fair and consistent fashion. The Mines and Minerals Division main office is in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada with offices throughout the province. It collects, analyzes and publishes valuable information about the state of the mining and mineral industries, as well as specific information about the location and quality of mineral deposits. The field staff throughout the provinces provide consultative services to the industry through all phases of the mining sequence, and include resident geologists, mining recorders and mineral development officers.
